Gmail Labs + Google Talk Labs

Many of the Google followers must be aware of the fact about Google has a website that demonstrates new Google projects which are not ready for prime time as yet - Yes, you are right. I am talking about Google Labs. Google Reader, Google Notebook, iGoogle, Google Maps etc being some of the wonderful graduates of labs.

Recently Google released Google Talk Labs edition. I tried it today, its good and really useful. It doesnt have many updates to the normal Gtalk version. Just few desktop notifications added and some changes with Talk UI.

More importantly, Google released a GMail Labs version yesterday. I dont how many of you are aware but this outstanding e-mail client service is still in its Beta version. It just makes you wonder what Google is thinking in terms of advancing GMail. I have been using a Better Gmail firefox extension for quite a few months now. The new GMail Labs version is more a step towards adding the Better Gmail Greasemonkey scripts to standard Gmail, though not entirely. But it is really good and really useful. What u need to do is just search for Labs tab in Gmail Settings. So guys, go check out the new additions with both GTalk and GMail Labs.

To know more on GMail Labs, See this Official Gmail blog and Gmail Labs - Lifehacker story.

Update: Dated June 7, 2008

Better Gmail

Gina Trapani, the founding editor of Lifehacker and a noted web developer has developed a Firefox Extension called Better Gmail. The extension is a collection of best Greasemonkey GMail enhancements into one extension. The various features that it has are -
1. Saved searches
2. Attachment icons
3. Label colors
4. Keyboard macros
5. a filter assistant
6. Right-click conversation previews
7. Four skins as of now.
8. A dedicated Mark Read button
9. Google Reader embedded inside Gmail

Did u read what i wrote last?.. yes, it has Google Reader directly embedded inside Gmail. What it does is after installing, it adds a Feeds Label to the left side just below Inbox Tab. Click on Feeds you will get Google Reader in Gmail ! Isnt it great?..Believe me, its true. Amazing work ! i think this has got to be one of the best firefox extension.I think Google should implement these features in Gmail since Gmail is still in Beta.

I loved it. i am sure, you also would ! So dont waste your time, Go there, download and Enjoy !!!

GMail rocks...Added New features...

My favorite e-mail service - GMail has launched some new features...

Now Gmail can check for the mail you receive at your other email accounts. You can retrieve your mail (new and old) from up to five other email accounts and have them all in Gmail. Then you can even create a customized 'From:' address, which lets you send messages from Gmail, but have them look like they were sent from another one of your email accounts. Please note that you can only retrieve mail from accounts that have POP3 access enabled. Learn More

This feature is currently only enabled for a limited number of users. GMail is working on making it more available soon. I am one of the lucky ones. Look for it in the 'Accounts' tab in Settings.

Google is great ! GMail is already having so many excellent features... i wonder what else Google is looking to add into it.. mind you, GMail is still in the Beta version !!
